Day 4, Ayutthaya to Bangkok, Thailand

Welcome to Ayutthaya.......your tour guide through this part of the journey is ME';-)

Let's enter Wat Chai Wattanaram, one of the most impressive of the remaining monuments of old Ayutthaya, and another UNESCO world heritage site

It was built in 1629 by King Prasat Tong, who was actually a commoner who overthrew the previous king and took the throne. The Ayutthaya period was definitely Thailand's "Golden Age." The town of Ayutthaya was founded in 1351& it was sacked and destroyed by the Burmese in 1767.

Look carefully, the Buddhas---> their heads have been chopped off by the Burmese invaders! Why??.....to show dominance and conquest conquest over the Thai people, and it was believed that precious metals and jewellery were hidden in the heads!

I was fascinated by this ancient city....to tread where previously only royalty could .......if the buildings could talk they would spin tales ...full of intrigue and slayings....

Next Stop Bang Pa In, a relatively modern royal retreat on an island in the Chao Phraya river.

Now we are going to take a leisurely boat ride down the river.......
past the floating markets....

people living along the klongs(canals)......

Wat Arun.....now I can see why it is called the Temple of the Dawn.....spectacular view

final destination......Bangkok

Goodnight....we will tour the city of Bangkok tomorrow before moving on to Malaysia and Singapore....
