Day 43, Havana, Cuba

Guess what Amit? We are going to the famous Havana Carnival in Cuba! I am sorry that you missed the Rio Carnival but this carnival is a riot of noise and colour that takes place each weekend during July and August as the Cuban holiday season gets into full swing.

We have joined the Cubans and other tourists alike and have taken to the streets.
oh, we absolutely love the music, dancing, processions and parades while everyone is consuming copious quantities of the national drink, Cuban rum.
The colourful parade of costumed dancers and decorated floats makes its way along the Malecon - Havana's famous seafront street.

The fun usually begins on the Friday evening of the first weekend in July with a gun salute fired from the San Pedro de la Cabana fortress and ends with a spectacular fireworks display.

Wow, these Cubans really know how to throw a party!

The Carnival comes with some traditions, like effigies of well known people being paraded along the coastal road, the Malecon, and the gaudy 'faroleros', decorated lamp posts carried aloft by dancers.

Feroz, Ramzi and Amit do not smoke however they all have unlit Cuban cigars in their mouths....this is hilarious!
